Restoration

Recovery from exploitation at the hands of a family member is a life-long process.  Victims being identified and removed from their trafficker is just the start of the recovery process.  Thus, identification should be considered the initial goal rather than the end goal.

Survivors often experience long-term physical, psychological, and social difficulties, requiring specialized trauma treatment and intensive assistance.  They are vulnerable to a number of hardships including substance abuse, suicide, poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, social isolation, and re-trafficking in adulthood. A holistic approach is needed to address all facets of a survivor’s life, from brain regulating to brain building exercises, cognitive retraining, and life-skill lessons.

If you believe you were the victim of familial exploitation as a young child, please call your local child protective agency and contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1 (888) 373-7888. For resources and support 24/7, please contact RAINN at 1 (800) 656-HOPE or dial 988.
